Follow these simple steps to return or exchange your item(s):

Return at Retail Store
1—Find the Nearest Location
2—Bring Invoice & Item(s) to Store
If you wish to return or exchange any portion of your order, please bring a copy of the invoice you received with your package.
3—Return or Exchange
If you are returning an item, you will be given store credit for the full amount you paid for the item, including taxes.
Return by Mail
*Items purchased from any retail store cannot be returned to the Online Store
1—Complete Return Form
If you wish to return or exchange any portion of your online order, please complete the Return Form and include it with your return shipment.

2—Authorize
Be sure to sign and date the Return Form. Exchanges will be processed as a new order.
*Your original form of payment will be refunded, and then charged for the replacement.
3—Repack Merchandise
Please make sure that the item(s) you wish to return, along with the Return Form are included with your return shipment.
4—Print Label & Ship

Our Policy
  • Items purchased at the American Apparel Online Store may be returned or exchanged within 45 days of the date of purchase. Return item(s) may not be worn or washed. Final sale items may not be returned or exchanged for any reason.
  • If you are not satisfied with the fit, quality, color, or size of an item, don't hesitate to return it and choose any item in another size or color. We will gladly replace any item that you're not completely happy with.
  • Final sale and sale items are excluded - please see limitation list.
  • A completed Return Form must be included with any return shipment. The Invoice is required for an in-store return.
  • Returns in-store for store credit only. No cash back.
  • Items purchased from any retail store cannot be returned to the Online Store.
Please note the following limitations:
  • Items must be returned within 45 days of purchase.
  • The following items are final sale, and cannot be returned:
  • Swimwear
  • Bodysuits
  • Unitards
  • Intimates
  • Sale items
  • Vintage
  • Cosmetic and Grooming products
  • Some pieces by American Apparel are sold with intentional imperfections. If you are not sure if your item is intentionally imperfect, please contact customer service.
  • Items that have been laundered or altered in any way, cannot be accepted for exchange or return.
  • Items purchased from any retail store cannot be returned to the Online Store.
  • Any item that was not purchased at full price cannot be returned. This includes sale items.
Refunds
  • You will be credited the amount you paid for the returned item(s), including taxes.
  • The original shipping charge is not refunded.
  • If you are returning your order by mail, please print out a USPS return label. The return label is free of charge, simply print it out and tape it to your return shipment. Please keep record of your tracking number.
Exchanges
  • You will be credited the amount for the returned item(s), including taxes.
  • Exchanges are processed as a new order. We will refund your original form of payment for the value of the returned merchandise and charge you for the new order. Please note this process is not always sequential.
  • If you are returning your order by mail, please print out a USPS return label. The return label is free of charge, simply print it out and tape it to your return shipment. Please be sure to keep record of your tracking number.
